German chocolate cake is a layered chocolate cake with a rich coconut and pecan frosting.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Anweisungen
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
- Stir in boiling water until smooth.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare the frosting by combining coconut, pecans, sugar, milk, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly.
- Spread frosting between layers and on top of the cake.

- Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
- This cake is best enjoyed the next day.
- You can use walnuts instead of pecans if desired.
