Classic old fashioned banana cream pie with a rich custard filling and fresh bananas.

- 1 pre-baked pie crust
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 2 cups milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream for topping
Anweisungen
- In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually add some hot mixture to yolks to temper them.
- Return the yolk mixture to the saucepan. Cook for 2 more minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.
- Layer sliced bananas in the pie crust.
- Pour the custard over the bananas.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
- Top with whipped cream before serving.
Notes
- Use ripe bananas for best flavor.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
- Add a sprinkle of nutmeg for extra flavor.
