Banh Tet is a traditional Vietnamese cake made for the Lunar New Year. It is a glutinous rice cake filled with mung beans and pork, wrapped in banana leaves.

  • 1 cup mung beans
  • 1 pound pork belly
  • 4 banana leaves

  • Water for soaking and boiling

Anweisungen

  1. Soak the glutinous rice and mung beans overnight.
  2. Steam the mung beans until soft, then mash them.
  3. Cut the pork belly into pieces and season with salt.
  4. Prepare banana leaves by cutting and softening them over heat.
  5. Layer rice, mung beans, and pork in the banana leaves.
  6. Wrap tightly and tie with string.
  7. Boil the wrapped cake for 6-8 hours.
  8. Allow to cool before slicing.
